The ABC of Shaving: Tips on How to Shave Your Neck Beard
Posted on November 15 2016
Men have different thoughts about beards. Some men particularly like maintaining a clean shave everyday while some prefer sprouting facial hair for the most part. What most men don’t like having are neck beards because they can be really itchy and can look unattractive if those hairs can’t be kept under control.
The hairs on the neck are a very tricky area to trim and shave because it can cause nicks, cuts and ingrown hairs if not done right. Here are some tips on how to keep your neck well-groomed:
Wash your Face and Neck – Every grooming routine requires thorough cleansing and washing. Shampoo your beard down to your neck beard to remove excess oils, dead skin cells and other environmental properties. Dry your beard and the neck area using a clean towel and run a comb at it later on to remove any tangles.
Follow the Grain – Shaving against the grain or your natural facial hair growth will definitely give you’re a closer shave, however it has its disadvantages. First, it’s the fastest and easiest way to get razor burns and second, facial hair will be cut below skin level making it grow on the skin tissue surrounding the pore and lead to having ingrown hair. The best solution is to follow the grain! Determining where the direction of your hair grows around the neck area can be confusing. You may try using a mirror and start ascertaining where your neck beard is growing from by caressing your neck back and forth with your fingers.
Discover the Wonders of Pre-Shave Oil – Tame that hard, stubborn and wiry beard with a pre-shave oil. Once your facial hair is softened, your razor will glide on your skin and will cut the hair without any resistance. It will minimize the effects of using razor on the face by preventing burns, nicks and cuts from happening because it creates a protective layer on top of the skin which shields the skin from the direct contact of the razor.
Hot Towel Routine – For those who have a very coarse neck beard, hot towel is essential in getting a comfortable shave. What we do is we get a dry washcloth and apply some Vicks VapoRub on it. Then, soak it in cold water and wring out at least 90% of its water. Place the towel in the microwave for at least 30 seconds and wave it to somewhat cool it down. Put the hot towel on your beard area down to your neck for 3 to 5 minutes. Doing this will soften the hair follicles ensuring a hassle-free and closer shave.
