Posted on November 15 2016
A complete skincare routine for men doesn’t only cover the face and body but the fingernails as well. Truth be told, fingernails are one of the most neglected parts of the body. Guys with unkempt and grubby fingernails are often seen as either unhygienic or unhealthy which is why it’s important to groom them regularly.
Take a look at your fingernails – are they chipping or looking a little yellowish? If they are, it only means that you have to start taking care of your fingernails before they develop adverse conditions. For starters, the best way to keep your fingernails healthy and strong is to eat a healthy diet. Healthy nails are marked with smoothness, strength and consistent pinkish color from the cuticles to the edge of the nail bed. If you think you have been taking your fingernails for granted and you don’t know exactly how to take care of them, just continue reading this post to learn our top nail care tips.
1.) Research shows that fingernails absorb water and any kind of liquid about 100 times faster than the skin. Make sure you keep your nails dry at all times or else, they will invite bacterial and fungal growth. Towel dry nails whenever you take a bath or wash your hands. Always wear gloves when washing the dishes or doing the laundry so that the nails won’t absorb liquid detergents and other liquid cleaning agents which can be very dehydrating.
2.) If you’re not using a specially formulated hand cleanser to wash your hands, apply a nail cream or a deep moisturizing lotion to keep the fingernails well-conditioned.
3.) Filing makes fingernails strong and healthy. It keeps their edges smooth so that they won’t catch on anything. Start by filing using light strokes on the sides of the nails going towards the center. Don’t file back and forth for it will weaken your nails and make them brittle.
4.) Pop a vitamin E capsule and rub its content on dry and brittle nails as a moisturizer.
5.) If your nails are prone to breaking, try soaking them in a cup of warm olive oil for about 20 minutes every two days for them to get stronger. Olive oil is one of nature’s best moisturizers and can instantly hydrate dry nails and prevent it from cracking and chipping.
6.) Mixing castor oil and white iodine in equal parts make a good moisturizer for dry and chapping cuticles.
