Home Remedies for Premature Graying of Hair

Posted on November 15 2016

Contrary to common belief, graying hair doesn’t only occur during when a person starts aging. Stress, diet, genetics and lifestyle all contribute to the loss of melanin pigment of the hair leading to premature graying. Using hair dye is the way to go if you are okay with a temporary solution to this problem. The good news is that you can take a natural route to treat and cure premature graying of hair right at the comfort of your home.

Tip #1: This may sound like a cliché but we’re going to say it anyway – prevention of premature graying of hair starts with a healthy diet. Chow down foods that are rich in Vitamins A and B, minerals and iron. We’re talking about green leafy vegetables, seafoods, poultry, beans and all the good stuff to become a part of your regular diet. These foods aid in replenishing significant pigmentation in the hair follicles which slows down the graying of hair.

Tip #2: A pinch of salt is fortified with iodine which normalizes the production of melanin and reverses the effects of graying hair. Iodine is also present in fish and in vegetables grown in iodine-rich soil.

Tip #3: Recent studies showed that an increased intake of protein rich foods can help restore gray hair back to its natural color. Enjoy eating lean meat, eggs, and whole grains as they also maintain the shiny and tangle-free texture of the hair.

Tip #4: Amla or indian gooseberry is an all-natural remedy for graying hair. It effectively treats and cure gray hair when applied to hair regularly. Simply boil some dried amla in extra virgin coconut oil and let it stand at room temperature for 24 hours before use. Massage this essential oil on the scalp and hair to keep the hair deeply nourished while increasing the production of melanin at the same time.

Tip #5: As much as we love drinking lemon water in the morning, make it a habit to wash your hair with it to cure premature graying of hair. The astringent quality of lemon makes a natural coloring agent that provides brown coloring to hair if applied to hair every single day.

Tip #6: Get some curry leaves and heat it with a regular coconut oil to create a natural hair tonic. Rub it on the hair shaft to help the hair follicles prevent the occurrence of graying of hair. Use this curry-based hair tonic to cure existing gray hair.

Tip #7: Make your own natural hair dye using pure henna powder and yoghurt. Combine these two ingredients to create a paste and apply to hair. This may seem like a temporary solution to the problem of graying hair since henna fades in just a matter of weeks but truth be told, this ingredient put the graying problem at bay with regular use.
